Personality:
One of the happiest people in Gravity Falls, Mabel Pines is your quintessential twelve year old girl. She's silly and fun-loving, always on the look out for anything that looks remotely entertaining and throwing herself into any activity completely. Slumber parties, karaoke with friends and family, an all around social butterfly, Mabel doesn't discriminate when it comes to fun. Not everything is always fun, but she can almost always find the fun in anything. This could be in part due to her generally optimistic nature, usually always looking on the bright side of situations and trying to find silver linings - there aren't many things that she can't put a lighter spin on whether it's before, during or after the actual event itself - or it could be attributed to how spontaneous and almost impetuous she can be. After all, someone has to keep the spirits up during super serious situations! And you can bet she can find it with her almost ridiculous nature!
Although she always seems to be looking up and has her head in the clouds, this girl does have a good set of brains on her shoulders. She does possess a good amount of common sense and intelligence, using it in situations she feels it's necessary or when her brother probably isn't using his own common sense, and she can be very down to Earth at times. Sure, a lot of things can be made into fun - using the fact zombies can be defeated with a perfect three part harmony to get her brother and uncle to sing karaoke with her for example - but she can realize a dangerous situation when it faces them down. Being chased by a killer sea monster or a giant robot trying to destroy her family aren't always the best times to crack a joke or play a game! And, unlike some people she could name, she's not going to go around and read off random spells until the dead start crawling out of the ground, thank you very much!
When these situations do arise though, Mabel is always ready to step up to the plate and help out when and how she can. Heck, even when smaller problems happen she's there to lend a hand! Did you mess up your make-up or hair? She's your girl! Do you need help getting something? You can count on her! This little girl is always willing to help a friend in need, because friends and family are the most important things to her. She's a very, very loving and caring person, wanting the people close to her to be happy and healthy. Sometimes she can take this a little far, going to lengths she really didn't need to in an attempt to find someone love or help them get over a fear they didn't have to face, but that's twelve year old enthusiasm for you. And she has a lot of it. Mabel will throw herself fully into anything she sets her mind to, sometimes stubbornly sticking to it despite people telling her not to for one reason or another. She is always confident that her plan will work and will almost doggedly pursue it at times until she is proven wrong.
Even in these types of scenarios though, when her plans go awry, she doesn't lose spirit. She can be very mature for her age, realizing - sometimes after childish denial - that failures aren't some black spot on a permanent record, but things she can learn from and improve on. This ability to persevere despite her failures and short-comings really shines, simply boosting the natural self-confidence she is practically overflowing with. Despite how silly and ridiculous she can look and act at times, she will do so whole-heartedly no matter who is watching. She knows and loves who she is, with very little doubt and not often worrying about how others view her. This really gives her a natural charm that most people have a very hard time resisting. Sure, she can be really over the top ridiculous and enthusiastic, but often times this is just contagious, often cheering up people around her and getting them into the mood to have a good time!
Of course, sometimes this self-confidence can lead into impressive egotism. She full admits that she's cute as heck and nobody can really resist her at times, on occasions stating that her creativity or talent is some of the best around and always shooting for the stars. Because of this she can be very competitive, though perhaps surprisingly is not often a poor sport about how the game ends. Mabel can usually accept losses pretty easily as long as there was plenty of fun had in the process. Of course, that's not to say she won't try to win relying on underhanded tactics from time to time. Take going so far as to cheat against Pacifica in mini-golf to beat her (because Pacifica is rich and so is basically cheating at life) or 'conning' people on various occasions (hey, she totally wanted to be O in tic-tac-toe. No, wait...maybe she wanted to be X after all. No she definitely wants to be O oh look she has three in a row suddenly how did that happen?? Staying with Stan likely doesn't help this habit at all.)
Which is surprising, really, because Mabel really doesn't like dishonesty, almost to a fault. Nothing like forcing your uncle to tell the truth with a magical item to nearly get you all arrested, right? And you guys totally paid for these things you just ran out of a store with, right? Really, this is one of the biggest contradictions in her personality. She generally sticks to honesty as much as she can, being very upset when certain people tell too many lies, but has lied herself before and has accepted others lying as well without a second thought at times.
Mabel is a very creative person, always overflowing with imagination. This creativity finds outlets in many different areas, all of which she is usually naturally gifted in. She knits all of her own sweaters, she's very proud of her artwork, has an amazing knack for creating very life-like wax sculptures...really if it's some form of artistic talent, Mabel probably has a solid grasp on it. She's never afraid to try something new, doing so almost impulsively sometimes as she can have a rather short attention span. You may think all of this arts and craft junk makes her a super girly girl and this might be a bad thing for an adventurer, but you'd be very wrong there. While her interests do involve a lot of the more feminine type things - kitties, color, glitter, sticker, etc - she also takes a shine to some more 'boyish' stuff. She's not afraid to tussle, she keeps a pet pig, things that would normally gross most people out don't always bother her. And her creativity can be used for more than just arts and crafts as well, applied easily to solving difficult situations and puzzles or figuring out problems others aren't always able to tackle using analytical thinking alone.
If a second opinion or a different view is ever needed, Mabel would be your best pick, almost always thinking outside the box.
