[Since not all of us can fly. At least his travel form drastically cuts down on the time it takes to get to Bavan. He's a very fast lil doggie.]

[With a confirmation, Mabel closes her laptop and gathers up her surprise for Fuyuhiko - which is just a small box tied with a gold ribbon. Huh, kind of reminds you of a different surprise that's been received today, doesn't it? Though this box isn't very big...

After making sure the hair ribbons she chose are securely in place she takes to the skies! Gonna get to their meeting spot and wait for her brother, yes. And then they're gonna hang out for a little bit and it'll be great!

Along with smelling her like he usually can, he'll be able to hear the faint jingling of bells. Her wind powers are still governed heavily by her mood, and she's in such a good one she can't help the gentle breeze going on around her. It's not too much of one, since it's barely blowing the ribbons or the tails of her neckerchief around too much, but it's there.

Okay Hiko...where are you coming from today??]

[Weirdly enough...Fuyuhiko has somehow managed to beat her there. Maybe he just ran extra fast today, because whatever this errand he has to do is super important!]

[Or, maybe, he was already in Bavan when she messaged him. Maybe he simply put his laptop somewhere and proceeded to their usual meeting place so it would LOOK like he was at the castle.]

[So when she arrives at the usual park bench, she'll find one (1) human yakuza in a pinstriped jinbei sitting there and waiting for her. He raises a hand in greeting.]

Yo. [He gets to his feet, gesturing for her to follow him.] C'mon, let's get going. This'll only take a second, promise.

[Gasp! Already there before her? What a turn of events this is! Well never mind about trying to figure out where he's coming from, since obviously she was going to notice him immediately.

She follows easily enough, hopping along beside him on the ground. Bird hopping.]

So what kind of errand is it, Hiko?

[Bird hopping...how cute.]

Just something I need to drop off. [Because that doesn't sound shady or anything. But he's heading into the shopping district so it's probably okay? He wouldn't bring her on a dangerous criminal errand or anything, surely...]

So the bells were your favorite, huh?

Oooh! What is it? Is it money? [She drops her voice a little, but seems...stupidly interested and excited for what she says next.] Is it some kind of shady yakuza deal?

[She's done some shady things for her grunkle, she could totally handle it if it were dangerous criminal activity!!! But oh, her bells--

She shakes her head a little, so they jingle even more than they do from her hopping.]

Uh-huh! I love them all a lot, but I really love bells. I love the way they sound!

...you sound way too excited about that possibility. [Mabel, what the fuck.] You'll see when we get there, but no, it's nothing like that. I wouldn't bring you along if it was.

I had a feeling that might be the case, though. Kyoudai's birds like bells too. So I figured your harpy side might appreciate them.

Awww I could totally handle it! [Look she likes Excitement.] I mean, I've spent the night in the county jail once, and the government almost locked me away for the rest of my life because Dipper and I uncovered a national conspiracy!! Plus, this one time the FBI were after Grunkle Stan, and were trying to take Dipper and I away since they said we couldn't stay with him, and I totally got a semi truck to run the car off the road. Then we broke into our house even with all of these FBI agents surrounding it, and uncovered a huge mystery about Stan, and saved him and Ford! I'm tough, y'know?

[She could totally handle it.]

Both of my sides appreciate them! I liked them before, but I really love them now. ...huh. I hadn't thought about it being the bird part of me that did that. I thought maybe I just started liking them more.

[That actually gets Fuyuhiko to stop for a moment. He chuckles, taking a hand out of his pocket and mussing Mabel's hair/feathers with it.]

I know you are. [Aaaaaand back to walking. They still aren't going anywhere shady at all. Just walking through the shopping district.] But even so, that's not how I operate. Bringing honest people like you into my work just doesn't sit well with me. And that's that.

[So no more talking about this, dammit! Why do you think he brought up the bells in the first place? He was trying to change the subject!!]

That's kinda how it works with the animal monsters though. Surely there's other stuff you like or dislike now that you're part bird, right? Other changes affecting your mind instead of your body.

[She takes the ruffle, crest raising up immediately afterward. But alright, she can't argue that. He's a good guy! She won't make him change that or anything.]

Uhhh...well I really like birdseed. I also like those bird treats too. Like the solid cookie type things? But they're made out of molasses and seed and stuff?

[She gives the matter some thought.]

Oh, I really like shiny things now too. And perching on stuff! Building nests, sunbathing, solving puzzles, chewing on...everything basically...

I guess there are a lot of things my bird brain likes to do!

[Fuyuhiko chuckles a little.]

See what I mean? All kindsa "fun" instincts to deal with. We can pick this conversation back up again a little later though...

[He comes to a stop in front of a brightly colored building, turning and facing Mabel with a small smile on his face.]

We're here.

[It's an arcade.]

[Huh...guess he's right! Now that she thinks about it there are a lot of things she does now that are probably because she's part bird...

But picking up the conversation later means thinking about it later too, because she's definitely putting that aside to focus on the here and now. And focusing on the here and now means tilting her head curiously.]

You have something to drop off at an arcade?

[He gives a short bark of laughter.]

Didn't I say we could go once you got rid of your parasite? [He pulls his hands out of his pockets and raises them in a shrug-like gesture.] You're bug free now, aren't you? And today seemed as good a day as any to keep that promise.

[Because it's your birthday. Surprise! The thing he had to "drop off" was you!]

[Again her crest is raised almost instantaneously, the girl doing these little excited bird hops in place that fluff up her feathers and make her hair ribbons jingle.]

Really?

[They're gonna go play in the arcade? Really???]

Would we be standing here otherwise? [No, Mabel, he just dragged you out here to look at the arcade from the outside. Time to go now!] Of course.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!! [Listen to that happy squeal of hers. She quickly reaches up to grab his hand, pulling on him as she tires to hop into the arcade. Come on!! Come on, come on, come on!!!! Let's go, let's go play!]

Let's play everything! We can play shooters and fighters and oh! Oh do you wanna play some of the racers? Maybe they have those ones that have actual motorcycles as controllers! Do you think they had those kinds of things in the older times?

[Oh she's so excited.]

H-Hey now, watch it. [He's not resisting at all, there's no need to pull like that!]

Don't ask me though, I've never been to any of the arcades here. I have no idea what kind of stuff they've got.

Oops, sorry...

[She doesn't tug anymore, but she doesn't let go of his hand either. Once inside she's looking wide eyed at everything, trying to decide where to start.]

What kinds of things do you like? I'll play anything!

Mmmm...I'm pretty good with shooters and fighters. I like games with a decent amount of action in them.

Alright!

[That sounds good to her! A good place to start. And continue, even. It's a surprise she doesn't manage to drag him to every game that's in there really. She even gets him to play things like foosball with her! It's a really fun afternoon that we're going to handwave because I have no idea what kind of games even exist in that time but they are surely just as satisfied with the experience as they are disappointed with how outdated everything continues to be.

And it's not until they're leaving the arcade that she remembers something very important.]

Thanks Hiko...this was really fun! I wanna play with you again sometime, okay? Maybe we can do that for your birthday next--

[She gives a soft gasp as something hits her and quickly stops, digging into the feathers under her ribs. Those have become a very handy place to keep things. Pretty soon she produces the small box she'd grabbed before she left and holds it up to him.]

Here! Jeeeeez you surprised me so much with that I totally forgot to give this to you!

[Fun times were had all around with super retro arcade games, even by a stick in the mud like Fuyuhiko. He even went all out on most of the games because going easy on someone is bullshit, even if it's their birthday. And, let's be real here, it's not like he'd be constantly kicking her ass anyway.]

[Dear god though, he hopes he's not still stuck here for a THIRD birthday. Something he doesn't get the chance to say before Mabel is shoving a small box in his face. Oh. This is...]

[He takes the box, but doesn't make to open it yet. Should...he do that right here? Right now? In this middle of an arcade? This isn't like when he went out to lunch with Gundam...]

[He definitely wouldn't be kicking her ass constantly. She's pretty good at this stuff you know! Even if he did, or won most of the time, she still had a lot of fun doing it. Because doing it together is the whole thing that makes it fun, no matter who's winning.

And if you ARE here for a third birthday, she will make it the best damn birthday you've ever had!! But that will be then and this is now. And right now she's just grinning up at him.]

It's late, but happy birthday! I hope you weren't expecting me to just forget about it or something.

[You don't have to open it now, she won't make you.]

Was there anything else you wanted to do? We could grab a snack before we go home or something! I don't have any plans after all.

I wasn't expecting you to forget, no, but... [He fumbles the present a little in his hands, thinking about how he wants to put this. He didn't expect her to forget, but he also wasn't expecting a present. Though, just leaving it at that kind of makes it sound like he has a negative opinion of her.] ...thanks.

[Again. He's not sure what else to say, so why not??? Say the same thing twice???]

I dunno about a snack, but I could go for some tea. If you're done here, we can go to a cafe or something.

[And then he can open his present there, once they're sitting down. Because that's a little less awkward than just standing in the middle of an arcade. So, for now, he slips the little box into his pocket.]

[She can't help the small giggle that escapes her, a hand moving up to cover her beak as if that'd help hide it. She's not laughing at you, promise! ...well okay, maybe a little bit. You don't gotta be flustered Hiko.]

A cafe sounds good!

[Ready to start hopping along towards said cafe when you are! There are a few nearby and she likes them all pretty equally, so just head off in a different direction and they can go and get settled in and have some tea and probably a copious amount of sweets on Mabel's side...]
