But okay, back to the matter at hand. She opens the card - it's so pretty wow, he's good at picking out cards! - and gives the contents a read and...
Then she has to read it over a second time. Ugh...her eyes aren't watering it's just your imagination! And her imagination. It's everyone's imagination because how silly is it to cry over a card? Even if it's really touching and encouraging and also he called her little sis.
Ugghhhh wiping at her eyes a little, she carefully sets the card aside to address the gift. The jingling had already gotten her excited because bells? Are those bells? Do you have any idea how much she has started to love bells recently? And now there are brightly colored ribbons too...what is up with those indeed? Definitely inspecting them.]
no subject
[When she pulls the ribbons out of the box, it should be immediately obvious what they are. All of them have a colorful hairclip attached to one end, multiple ribbons streaming from the same clip. Though the ribbons on each clip vary a little in width and texture, they're all color coordinated. And there's a lot of variety, clearly so Mabel can mix and match her hair ribbons depending on her mood. Lots of them have fun little beads on them: stars, hearts, cute little animal faces, flowers...all the things a little girl would love. Some have silver or gold bells tied to the end. And some are a little less loud, featuring ribbons made of gauze and fabric roses.]
[But still, there's more in the box. Because once she's pulled all the ribbons out, she'll notice that there's still a little space at the bottom of the box. There's bright yellow tissue paper covering whatever it is, though. And, whatever it is, it must be very light because the box never weighed much to begin with.]
no subject
Later though. Her eyes immediately light up when she realizes what they are and she admires every single set there. Oh my god these are so cute? And so pretty? Ugh she doesn't know which ones she wants to wear first!!! It takes her a minute to decide, the box temporarily forgotten, before clipping two of the ones with bells into her feathers on the back of her head. She shakes her head a little, so pleased by the way they jingle as her crest instantly perks up, and sets the rest aside.
And that's when she notices the yellow tissue paper. There's more???? Alright, mystery gift, what's in you...? (Again, the unwrapping is very careful. The paper is pretty! She could use it in her nest!)]
no subject
[Because what's under the tissue paper is a pretty stark contrast to the rest of the gift. There's no bright colors, no bells, no glitter, or fun shapes. It's a black silk neckerchief, with a little dipper constellation embroidered in shining silver thread. Becoming a teenager means transitioning from childhood to adulthood. So it seemed appropriate to give her something with a more grown-up feel to it in addition to something fun and bright and colorful.]
no subject
But the black silk neckerchief, even if it isn't brightly colored, is still appreciated! She loves all colors after all, and this includes shades of black and grey. (She just thinks Hiko needs some more color in his life.) Plus, it's such a nice material...
And also there's the embroidery, which she really ends up staring at for longer than needed. Fuyuhiko it's her birthday. Do you know how rude it is to make her cry on her birthday? It's very rude! You owe her, because here she is. Definitely crying. That's not to say she doesn't like it or anything. She loves it, really. It's just...again, this is so touching. And it hurts a little, seeing that design, but at the same time it helps? Because she can guess at what the point of this is.
Yet another accessory that she puts on without hesitation, once she's calmed down a little and no longer has the waterworks turned on. She makes sure to tie it in a way that leaves the little dipper fully visible, proudly resting over her feathers. She's never taking this off except to groom and sleep.
Ugh, once she's done sniffling she's going to punch you gently through the internet Hiko. Hope you're ready.]
no subject
[Is he ready for internet punches though? Who knows. Guess she'll have to punch him and find out!]
>> <sweaterweather>
She takes a few minutes to recover before getting her laptop and opening it up. Alright time to deliver those punches.
...once she figures out how.]
thank you hiko
everything's so pretty and beautiful and i love it all so much
and the card really means a lot to me too
[Not just the physical thing, but the message inside. She's doing her best to type as impeccably as possible.]
you're really the best!!
<NineHeaded>
[Apparently Fuyuhiko WAS ready for it, at least. Because while there is a bit of a delay before he responds, it's not too long of one. Like maybe he was nearby but just had to think about a response.]
nah, birthday presents are just what any decent person would do, right? especially a brother.
but you're welcome, all the same.
[He's glad she liked it...]
<sweaterweather>
The Best even! with a big T and B!
just because that's what a decent person and brother would do doesn't mean you can't also be the best!!
[Just accept it!!!]
though hey! are you busy?
<NineHeaded>
why?
[Spoilers: it's not an errand at all, it's the second part of Mabel's birthday surprise.]
<sweaterweather>
when you're done with your errand, do you wanna hang out for a little bit maybe?
even if it's only like ten minutes!!
[Because she has a surprise for you too, mister. And also she's rethinking the "let's not spend it with anyone" decision she came to earlier.]
<NineHeaded>
it'll only take a minute and then we can hang out. that work?
<sweaterweather>
okay!! that works really well yeah!
where should we meet? i just gotta get something and i'll be ready to go!
<NineHeaded>
i'll be there as quick as i can.
see you in a bit.
[Since not all of us can fly. At least his travel form drastically cuts down on the time it takes to get to Bavan. He's a very fast lil doggie.]
>> Action;
After making sure the hair ribbons she chose are securely in place she takes to the skies! Gonna get to their meeting spot and wait for her brother, yes. And then they're gonna hang out for a little bit and it'll be great!
Along with smelling her like he usually can, he'll be able to hear the faint jingling of bells. Her wind powers are still governed heavily by her mood, and she's in such a good one she can't help the gentle breeze going on around her. It's not too much of one, since it's barely blowing the ribbons or the tails of her neckerchief around too much, but it's there.
Okay Hiko...where are you coming from today??]
no subject
[Or, maybe, he was already in Bavan when she messaged him. Maybe he simply put his laptop somewhere and proceeded to their usual meeting place so it would LOOK like he was at the castle.]
[So when she arrives at the usual park bench, she'll find one (1) human yakuza in a pinstriped jinbei sitting there and waiting for her. He raises a hand in greeting.]
Yo. [He gets to his feet, gesturing for her to follow him.] C'mon, let's get going. This'll only take a second, promise.
no subject
She follows easily enough, hopping along beside him on the ground. Bird hopping.]
So what kind of errand is it, Hiko?
no subject
Just something I need to drop off. [Because that doesn't sound shady or anything. But he's heading into the shopping district so it's probably okay? He wouldn't bring her on a dangerous criminal errand or anything, surely...]
So the bells were your favorite, huh?
no subject
[She's done some shady things for her grunkle, she could totally handle it if it were dangerous criminal activity!!! But oh, her bells--
She shakes her head a little, so they jingle even more than they do from her hopping.]
Uh-huh! I love them all a lot, but I really love bells. I love the way they sound!
no subject
[WHAT KIND OF BROTHER WOULD HE BE IF HE DID THAT?]
I had a feeling that might be the case, though. Kyoudai's birds like bells too. So I figured your harpy side might appreciate them.
no subject
[She could totally handle it.]
Both of my sides appreciate them! I liked them before, but I really love them now. ...huh. I hadn't thought about it being the bird part of me that did that. I thought maybe I just started liking them more.
no subject
I know you are. [Aaaaaand back to walking. They still aren't going anywhere shady at all. Just walking through the shopping district.] But even so, that's not how I operate. Bringing honest people like you into my work just doesn't sit well with me. And that's that.
[So no more talking about this, dammit! Why do you think he brought up the bells in the first place? He was trying to change the subject!!]
That's kinda how it works with the animal monsters though. Surely there's other stuff you like or dislike now that you're part bird, right? Other changes affecting your mind instead of your body.
no subject
Uhhh...well I really like birdseed. I also like those bird treats too. Like the solid cookie type things? But they're made out of molasses and seed and stuff?
[She gives the matter some thought.]
Oh, I really like shiny things now too. And perching on stuff! Building nests, sunbathing, solving puzzles, chewing on...everything basically...
I guess there are a lot of things my bird brain likes to do!
no subject
See what I mean? All kindsa "fun" instincts to deal with. We can pick this conversation back up again a little later though...
[He comes to a stop in front of a brightly colored building, turning and facing Mabel with a small smile on his face.]
We're here.
[It's an arcade.]
no subject
But picking up the conversation later means thinking about it later too, because she's definitely putting that aside to focus on the here and now. And focusing on the here and now means tilting her head curiously.]
You have something to drop off at an arcade?
